Andrea is my sister, so this one felt the most personal from the beginning. She has the most specific taste out of anyone I know. She’s always the one finding the most niche places — small restaurants, bakeries, things that feel hidden, with combinations you wouldn’t expect to work but somehow do. She loves tea and soft floral flowers. Earl grey felt right, but also a little intimidating. It’s a flavor that can disappear if you don’t treat it carefully. So I started building around it instead of over it. Blackberry for depth, lavender to bring it out, mascarpone to soften everything, a balance of color and texture that felt like her taste. The blackberry and lemon made it brighter, while the mascarpone kept it subtle.

Aidan is one of the most outgoing people I know. She is funny without trying and always the center of something; a warm and open presence. I wanted this cake to have personality so I leaned into strong flavors, but still balanced. I wanted it to feel a little unexpected but still something that worked completely. Chai and espresso gave it both softness and depth, and the silver details made it feel more styled, like something between dessert and an accessory.

Amaya grew up in the Bronx, where chocolate desserts were always around. birthday cakes, corner bakery slices, things that felt familiar and consistent. She’s the brightest person I know. Loud in the best way, always laughing and bringing energy into a room. At first, it felt strange to pair that with something so heavy and dark like chocolate. I kept the chocolate, but softened it and added lighter elements, small contrasts, things that lift it instead of weighing it down. To me, Amaya feels like flowers, strawberries, something warm and open. This cake sits somewhere in between — still grounded in what she grew up with, but adjusted to match who she is now.

I’ve known Ciara for a long time, and she has always been the most artistic and the most musically inclined person. I always said that she woud do something big. And now she is. This cake is heavier, more layered + intense, but everything inside of it works together in a way that still feels balanced. The lavender cuts through it in a way you don’t expect at first, but once you taste it, it makes sense. I still remember her birthday — everyone stopped for a second after trying it. People kept asking what was in it. No one could really place it, but everyone liked it.
